Internet message header in Outlook on the Web, OWA and Outlook.com

I know how to get the Internet message header in Outlook to check the origin and other sender and routing details of a received message, but is there also a way to see them when using Outlook Web Access (OWA)?

Internet Headers buttonThere is indeed also a way to check the Internet Message Header in Outlook on the Web, Outlook Web App and Outlook.com.

However the command is relatively hidden and in a slightly different location for each web version.

Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010

  1. Double click on the message to open it in its own window.
  2. Click on the Message Details icon at the top of your message.
  3. A new dialog window will open on the page containing the Internet Mail Header details.

Note: With these Exchange versions, there is no way to access the Message Details dialog without first opening the message itself. However, this is not a security concern as attachments cannot be opened automatically, scripts are not allowed in messages and web beacons (images used for tracing you) do not automatically download.

Exchange 2013

In the Reading Pane, click the ellipsis (3 dots…) next to the Reply, Reply All and Forward button (top right corner) and choose: View Message Details.

Exchange 2016

In the Reading Pane, click the down arrow on the Reply or Reply All button (top right corner) and choose: View message details.

Office 365 – Exchange Online

In the Reading Pane, click the down arrow on the Reply or Reply All button (top right corner) and choose: View message details.

Outlook.com (new Outlook Mail interface)

In the Reading Pane, click the down arrow on the Reply button (top right corner) and choose: View message source.

In the Reading Pane, click the down arrow on the Actions button (top right corner) and choose: View message source.
