Many folders created named: "the file so that changes to the file will be reflected in your item."
Since a couple of weeks, I‘m seeing folders being created in Outlook with the name:
"the file so that changes to the file will be reflected in your item."
I’m not able to delete all these folders and new ones are being created again and again.
Why are these folder being created and how can I get rid of them?
This is an issue that is often being caused by having the combination of Office 2010 Service Pack 2 and the Norton AntiSpam add-in installed but there are other situations in which this could happen as well.
Disabling or checking for an update of the culprit add-in will allow you to get rid of the folders.
Disable or update the Norton AntiSpam Outlook Plugin
The Norton AntiSpam add-in is part of the Norton Internet Security (NIS) and Norton 360 security suites.
Both the Outlook Team and Norton Support are aware of this issue and Norton will release an update later in October via their LiveUpdate feature.
For now, the recommendation is to disable the “Norton AntiSpam Outlook Plugin” in Outlook 2010 via:
File-> Options-> Add-Ins-> button: Go…
Remove the selection in front of the “Norton AntiSpam Outlook Plugin” to disable it.
Deleting the folders
Once you’ve disabled the add-in, restart Outlook and you’ll be able to delete all the folders.
When there you have a lot of these folders, you can drag and drop them into the Deleted Items or Junk E-mail folder and then right click on that folder and choose the Empty Folder command. This method will allow you to skip the delete confirmation dialog box you’ll get for each folder.
After disabling the “Norton AntiSpam Outlook Plugin” add-in you can delete all the folders that were created because of it.
