Should I install the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Office/Outlook?

I’ve just installed Windows 10 on my computer and I’m now about to install Office. It offers to install the 32-bit version but I know there is also a 64-bit version available.

I seem to recall that Microsoft used to recommend to install the 32-bit version, even on a 64-bit version of Windows but that was some years ago.

  • Does Microsoft still recommend installing the 32-bit version?
  • What are the downsides or benefits when I install the 64-bit version?
  • Where can I download the 64-bit version of Office?

Recovering deleted Outlook.com / Hotmail messages

It seems that the Deleted Items folder and the Junk E-mail folder of Hotmail and Outlook.com accounts get emptied automatically after some time.

Unfortunately, a message got delivered to one of these folders and since I wasn’t able to check my mail for some time, I never got a chance to move it back to my Inbox.

Is there any way to recover these automatically deleted emails somehow?

Combine and Sync Outlook Calendars

I have access to multiple Calendars in Outlook. Some of them are shared Calendars from managers and colleagues.

To maintain my overview, I currently copy their content to a separate combined calendar. Obviously, this is quite error prone and cumbersome.

Is there any way to automate this process or a better way to create a single merged Calendar?

Always reply with the same email address

I've got multiple email accounts but I actually only use 1 address to send my mails from.

As Outlook always automatically uses the account that the message has been received with for sending as well, I need to change the account each time.

How can I make Outlook always use the address of my default account instead?

Backing up all Ribbon and Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) customizations at once

After making several changes to the Ribbons and Quick Access Toolbars in Outlook, I wanted to make a backup of my customizations.

There is an export button for this in the “Customize Ribbon” and “Quick Access Toolbar” section of the Options dialog but this only backs up the customizations for the current item window and not all the item windows which are available in Outlook. This makes the exporting process quite cumbersome.

Is there a way to backup all the Outlook Ribbon and Quick Access Toolbar customizations at once?

Compatibility Checker dialog

Upon converting a message from HTML to Plain Text or when trying to past HTML content in a Plain Text message, I used to get a Compatibility Checker dialog informing me which changes would be made to the text such as that pictures and formatting will be lost.

There was also a "Don't show this dialog box again" option which somehow (some time) got selected and now I don't get this dialog anymore.

Is there any way to get this dialog back?
