I'm using Microsoft Office Outlook but I'm getting requests from Outlook Express to compact messages. The full prompts read;

"To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages. This may take a few minutes."

Why am I getting these prompts when I use Outlook and not Outlook Express and can I turn them off?

Select next unread message automatically

When I return after some free days, I handle all my unread mail starting at the bottom (as it is the message that I received first after I went away).

When I'm done with the email, I usually either delete it or move it to another folder. After this, Outlook automatically selects the email before it; which I've already read.

Can I make Outlook to move up the list of message and thus automatically select my next unread item instead of going down the list of received messages?

Should I use POP3 or IMAP?

In your previous tips you describe the process about switching from POP3 to IMAP and from IMAP to POP3.

I’ve always used POP3 in the past without giving it much thought as it worked for me. I recently found out that my provider actually supports both methods. So I can choose but that also brings my question;

Which one should I choose?

I just installed New Outlook on my computer and wondered where exactly it got installed.

I don’t see it in the Office installation folder (where outlook.exe is as well), nor anywhere else in Program Files. The shortcut doesn’t reveal anything either.

How can I determine where New Outlook is installed and open the installation folder?

Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010

I just installed Office 2010 and each time when I start Outlook I get an installer dialog saying;

"Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010"

It finishes this process and then Outlook starts normally but when I restart Outlook, this process starts all over again.

None of the other Office applications trigger this installer dialog; just Outlook.

How can I get Outlook to start without needing to go through this process?

Jump to contacts by typing first letter

I'm sorting my contacts in a list view (Phone List) instead of using the Business Cards view. With the Business Card view there is an alphabetic index on the right side which allows you to easily jump to contacts starting with that letter.

This index is not available in the Phone List view nor does typing the first letter of a name bring me to that contact (like it does in Explorer), instead it starts overwriting a selected name or adds a new contact.

Is there any method in making the index available in the Phone List view as well or make it jump through a contact by typing?
