Brighten up your Automatic Replies (OOF) for the holidays with icons, colors and emoji

The weather doesn’t really seem to play along this Summer; it’s either lots of rain or draught, no sun at all or a bit too much sun and of course, for some of you it’s Winter now! But even though the weather might be a bit gloomy, it doesn't mean that your Automatic Replies (OOF) have to be the same.

While you can maintain a serious business style OOF message for the outside world, how about a more cheerful notification message for your colleagues hard at (doing your) work?

Remove empty Personal Folders list

I've configured Outlook with my e-mail account and that works just fine. However, the mails arrive in a separate Personal Folders file and leaves the one above it (holding Outlook Today) empty.

Can I remove this emty folder set or otherwise configure Outlook to use it instead of the separate Personal Folder set below it?

Flagged a message for Follow Up but I’m not getting a reminder

I've flagged several messages for Follow Up but unless I also specify a reminder time myself, I do not get any reminder at all. When using the Today, Tomorrow, This Week or Next Week flags, the item does not show a "bell" icon either.

How can I automatically set reminders on flagged items?

Launching Outlook at startup (in a smarter way)

I know many people start Outlook as the first application directly after they start their computer and close it as the last one when they shutdown.

You might already know that you can automatically start any application at startup by placing a shortcut to this application in the Startup folder in the Start Menu. This is a great way to save you a click and/or to ensure that you do not forget to start Outlook.

However, the problem with this method is that you are putting quite a bit of stress on your computer directly when you login and starting up your computer might actually take a lot longer as a result. Especially if you are also starting some other applications directly at logon, you could render your computer unresponsive for quite some time.

Exporting or backing up my complete Calendar as an ics-file

I used to be able to export my Calendar as an ics-file but now when I start the Import and Export Wizard, I only see an option to export it as a csv-file or pst-file.

I’d really prefer using the ics-file format as it is much easier to use as a backup or for other people to import so they can see my availability.

How can I save my Calendar as an ics-file again?

Send files and report updates automatically

My work involves updating a spreadsheet with new information and then send out this updated spreadsheet directly to several customers. At the end of the week, I also have to send them the latest report.

The way I do this now is by using a draft message which is pre-addressed already. Once I'm done updating, I open a copy of this draft, add the latest spreadsheet as an attachment and send it out.

For the report I do something similar and have a recurring task reminder set at the end of the week to remind me to send it out.

Since this is a very large part of my work (I update multiple spreadsheets and send out multiple reports), the Outlook process is rather cumbersome. Is there any way I can skip a few steps in this process?
