Disable Conversation View in Outlook on the Web, OWA or Outlook.com

I don’t really like Conversation View and how it groups the emails together as it requires additional clicks to get to a specific message within the conversation.

Also, I couldn’t find back a message which I received last week only to find it back under “Yesterday” under a different “From” name of someone who replied later.

How do I disable Conversation View in OWA?

Change default address list in Outlook on the Web (OWA)

In one of your previous tips, you mentioned how to set your private Contacts folder as the default when selecting the Address Book instead of showing the Global Address List first.

When I’m away from the office, I’m forced to use Outlook Web Access instead of being able to use Outlook.

Is there any way I can make this change in Outlook on the Web as well?

Do not always ask before opening this type of file

When I double click on an attachment, I’m being asked whether I would like to open or save the file. I would like to open it but I don't want to answer this question again.

There is an option which says “Always ask before opening this type of file” which I want to turn off but I can't since it is greyed out.

How can I enable this checkbox and get rid of the prompt when opening my attachment?

Combine or nest multiple Contact Groups into one

I’ve created several Contact Groups in Outlook (known as Distribution Lists in previous versions of Outlook) which I use for mailings.

Due to some restructuring and increase of my sending limit, I now like to combine some of these groups into 1 group. As they hold quite a few Contacts, I don’t really feel like adding them manually or recreate the group entirely.

Is there any way I can quickly combine multiple Contact Groups into one?

Flag completed time not showing

In Outlook 2003 when an item was flagged, and subsequently marked Complete, the email would show the date and time it was de-flagged and marked as complete. In Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010, it is only showing the date.

How do I get it to show both the completed date and time again?

Showing the Ruler and Tab Stops in Outlook 2013 and Outlook 2016

In previous versions of Outlook, there was an option to enable a ruler which you also described in a previous tip.

I have not been able to find this in Outlook 2016. I use this to create tab-stops to align my content and determine the with of images and tables for newsletters that I send out.

Is this option really gone in Outlook 2016 or can I still somehow enable it?

Password expired for Outlook.com account

When connecting to my Outlook.com account, I'm being prompted over and over again for my password. I fill it in but it does not accept it.

Forward, Reply All and Print in Outlook.com

When I use my Outlook.com account via the browser rather than in Outlook, I seem to miss some basic features or I simply can’t seem to find them.

For instance, how can I Forward a message or use Reply All?

Also, I can’t seem to find the Printing option. I’ve tried printing with the printing feature from my browser, but that looks very ugly as it simply prints the entire screen.

Where can I find these commands?

Quickly send copied text and files by pasting

Who doesn’t like to copy and paste to get something done quicker? In Outlook, you can even paste something faster than you may think.

This is another one of my favorite “hidden features” in Outlook which allows you to send copied text or files without first creating a new message.

The trick is really simple and it will sure raise some eyebrows from people not familiar with it and who doesn’t like to do that every now and then? ;-)

Formatting and attachments disabled for Notes section of Appointments, Contacts and Tasks

When adding something in the Notes section of an Appointment, Meeting, Contact or Task item, I noticed that the Format Text tab is completely greyed out and also most of the Insert tab.

I always used to be able to add Rich Text to this field and add pictures and other attachments to it but now it no longer seems possible. The Attach File button actually does seem to work but I can't access the files anymore after attaching.

What is causing this and how can I re-active it all again?
