Forgotten attachment or subject reminder

I sometimes tend to forget to include the promised attachment when sending a message or the subject of a message.

Is there any way that Outlook can remind me of this?

Don’t repair ost-files with scanpst.exe

I encountered some issues with my ost-file and so I scanned it for errors with scanpst.exe. It found some issues but scanpst.exe was unable to fix it as the issues still existed when I rescanned it after the repair.

  • Didn't there used to be a scanost.exe as well?

How often do I need to use AutoArchive?

I’ve saved every email I’ve ever sent or received for some years now. My PST-file is huge; well over 4GB!

I was wondering if I’m pushing the boundaries of Outlook with a pst-file of that size. I can remember that a 2GB pst-file used to be the limit but clearly that is no longer the case.

Should I be worried about data loss and performance issues with a pst-file of this size?

How often should I run AutoArchive to keep Outlook in tip-top shape?

Keyboard shortcuts for all Outlook commands

The ToolTips for some commands do not show their corresponding keyboard shortcuts (like for instance "Attach File").

Do I always have to use my mouse for these commands or are there any hidden shortcuts for them or can I somehow create my own?

Backup and restore Categories

I've created a list of Categories in Outlook which I don't like to lose so I thought about backing them up. Unfortunately I couldn't find an export/import option for this.

How do I backup my Categories and, if possible; can I also copy or restore them to another mail profile?

Outlook 2010 is mixing up header IMAP accounts

Several messages in my IMAP account in Outlook have message headers (such as subject and From address) which do not apply to the message body.

The message body appears to be from previous emails, show garbled or can't be downloaded at all. Attachments seem to be affected as well.

Why is this happening and how can I fix these messages?

  • Why does it start with version 8.0?
  • Why is there no version 13.0?
  • Why isn’t Office 2019 version 17.0?

Changing the display name of a mailbox or pst-file

When I look at my Outlook folder list on the left, I see most of my mailboxes are named after the email addresses that they receive emails for. I also have a pst-file that is called “My Outlook Data File”.

These names are quite long and thus get truncated unless I widen the Folder Pane. Especially since some of my mailboxes only differ in the domain part, I prefer to shorten or otherwise customize these mailbox names.

How can I change the names for my mailboxes and pst-file?

Prevent Archive files from loading each time

I'm using the AutoArchive feature in Outlook to keep my main mailbox small and archive to a separate pst-file. However, my (huge) archive gets loaded each time when I start Outlook and slows down Outlook.

This of course counteracts the increase in speed I was aiming at with having a small mailbox by archiving.

How can I prevent Outlook from loading the archive each time and only open the archive when I need it?

Changing the default location for saving and opening message Templates (oft-files)

We save messages as oft-files so all the people in our team can use them as templates for sending out standardized emails.

However, when opening or saving messages as oft-files, Outlook defaults to the Templates folder within the user’s profiles.

Is there any way to change this default location to for instance a network share?
