Msg-file details in Windows File Explorer

Sometimes I save received email messages outside of Outlook and store them directly on disk as msg-files. These messages are then stored with their filename only.

Even when looking at the properties of the file I can only see the date I stored it on the disk and can no longer see any details of the messages itself such as date received and the name of the sender without first opening the message.

Is there any way to view more details without opening the message or store these messages with more info than the subject alone?

Many folders created named: "the file so that changes to the file will be reflected in your item."

Since a couple of weeks, I‘m seeing folders being created in Outlook with the name:

"the file so that changes to the file will be reflected in your item."

I’m not able to delete all these folders and new ones are being created again and again.

Why are these folder being created and how can I get rid of them?

Keeping unlinked or closed pst-archives indexed

I have a couple of old pst-file archives which I don't keep actively connected to Outlook as I don't use them on a daily basis. On occasion I still need to access one of them and I connect it to Outlook via;

  • File-> Open-> Outlook Data File...

If I then want to do a search within the archive, the results are always incomplete as the archive has not been fully indexed yet.

Is there any way I can directly search within the archive directly without needing to wait for it to be indexed?

Export multiple Contacts as vCards

I found how I can save a single contact as a vCard, but is it also possible to export my entire Contacts folder in the vCard format rather than msg-files, txt-files or csv-files?

Can I also save them all within a single multi-contact vCard file which I can for instance import on my iPad?

Access or share non-default Outlook folders

A colleague of mine has given me permissions to access a couple of his sub folders and an additional Contacts folder that he created.

When I use File-> Open & Export-> Other User’s folders, I can only choose between Outlook’s default folders, but not any that he created himself.

How can I access these shared folders?

Find or Select a folder by typing its name

I've got quite a large list of folders (with names of customers) in which I sort my emails. Usually, to find a folder to which I want to move an email to, I need to scroll in the Navigation Pane and look for it.

As I already know the name of the folder, is there an easier way to select it? Perhaps similar to selecting a file or folder in Explorer by typing its name?

Recovering deleted Outlook.com / Hotmail messages

It seems that the Deleted Items folder and the Junk E-mail folder of Hotmail and Outlook.com accounts get emptied automatically after some time.

Unfortunately, a message got delivered to one of these folders and since I wasn’t able to check my mail for some time, I never got a chance to move it back to my Inbox.

Is there any way to recover these automatically deleted emails somehow?

Better Task Management for Outlook Desktop Outlook and Mobile with Microsoft To Do

The Task module of Outlook isn’t one of the prettiest or most modern parts of Outlook and probably also one of the lesser used modules by most.

Creating and managing tasks in Outlook can sometimes be a task of its own and there isn’t really a way to manage your Tasks when using a smartphone or tablet. Until now…

Have you already used the Microsoft To Do app?

Remove underline and changing hyperlinks color

By default, whenever I create a hyperlink, Outlook turns the text color into blue and underlines it.

This is of course very recognizable but also not very modern as most web designs no longer underline hyperlinks. I’m also simply a bit bored with the blue.

Is there any way I can remove this default underline and change the color into for instance our company's color (green)?
