Quickly set dates with formulas and natural text

While more and more people are starting to use the Tab button to jump to the next field (to fill out an Outlook appointment for example) instead of using the mouse, I often find people struggling when they reach a date field.

They either look at a physical calendar first to determine the future date (when the date math gets hard) and then type the date or they still grab to a mouse.

How can you do this faster and still without a mouse?

Automatic spell check and Autocorrect not working

I'm using Outlook 2016 with Office 2013 and noticed that the automatic spell check and AutoCorrect isn't working. I can check the spelling manually but mistyped words do not get those squirly red underlines.

How can I enable these features?

Recall a sent message (and why it will probably fail)

Instead of forwarding a message to someone else, I accidentally replied to it.

As this is a bit of an embarrassing mistake, I was wondering if I could β€œundo” the sending of this message.

Can I recall a message and how can I prevent future mistakes?

Change back the message list look in Outlook 2013 or Outlook 2016

The message list has changed quite a bit in Outlook 2013.

  • The mail icons are gone and has been replaced with a blue bar
  • The subject is now in blue
  • The sender name is being displayed larger than the rest
  • The first line of a message in now being displayed.

I don't find this new configuration very clear and, due to some other UI changes as well, I now see 4-6 messages less in my message list than I did in Outlook 2010.

How can I set it back to the way it was in Outlook 2010?

General notice

All information on HowTo-Outlook is freely accessible without any need to log on. However, we do collect website usage information from you for statistic purposes.

Statistics

As any professional website, MSOutlook.info collects statistics about website usage in order to improve the usage of the website and provide content which is most relevant to you. In addition, these statistics can be used to report to any sponsors.

All of the information which is collected and reported remains completely anonymous; The data collected cannot be traced back to a single individual.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files which are automatically generated and placed on your computer by your Internet browser and contain session information.

MSOutlook.info itself does not place any cookies on your computer but does use third party services which can create cookies on your computer when visiting MSOutlook.info.

Google Analytics

The main service that does this is Google Analytics, a service from Google Inc. ("Google") to generate the aforementioned statistics reports.

Google's data usage policy, including several ways to opt out, can be found here. The main settings can be controlled via; Ad Settings.

Affiliate programs

Other services that could (but not necessarily) do this are from affiliate programs that we participate in like MyCommerce. This helps them to trace any sales that might have been generated from MSOutlook.info for which we are credited.

These links all start with https://addins.howto-outlook.com/ and require you to click on it yourself before a cookie can be placed. You'll then be redirected to a website that is not controlled by MSOutlook.info nor HowTo-Outlook.com.

It is this 3rd party site, and not our outgoing link, that might place a cookie.

Manage cookies

You can configure your browser to not allow any cookies or to be warned when a cookie is placed on your system.

For other browsers, see the documentation of your browser on how to do this.

Although this will not affect your browsing experience when visiting MSOutlook.info, we do politely ask not to do this as the statistics collected and the (small) revenue stream generated from the affiliate programs we participate in, help us to continue to maintain and host the site for you and we want to thank you for that.

Do not always ask before opening this type of file

When I double click on an attachment, I’m being asked whether I would like to open or save the file. I would like to open it but I don't want to answer this question again.

There is an option which says β€œAlways ask before opening this type of file” which I want to turn off but I can't since it is greyed out.
