Pictures in messages from some senders and newsletters are not downloaded unless I click a bar above the message. Pictures in messages from others download as soon as the message is opened.

Searching for or excluding items with empty fields

When using Instant Search, it is easy enough to find something when it contains that specific word or category. I can also do a search for items that should not include that word or category by using NOT in my query. However, I cannot seem to find a way to locate all the items that do not have any value assigned at all to that field.

For instance; find all items that do not have any category assigned or find all contacts for which I haven't specified their birthday or company.

Search partial string or mid-word

Can I use wildcards when using the Instant Search feature in Outlook?

It appears that I have to type the EXACT word to find anything. I remember than in previous versions of Outlook I could also use only part of a word to find it.

Example:

  • On Subject line: Jims Warehouse x027886
  • I want to be able to type 2788 and find the record.
  • However, I can only find it when I type x02788.
