Using Instant Search with Public Folders

Using Instant Search with Public Folders

When searching in my own mailbox, I directly get my search results when typing. However, when I do a search in a Public Folder, this is not the case and I have to press ENTER to actually start the search.

In addition, several search commands do not seem to work and are grayed out.

How can I make Instant Search for Public Folder behave the same as for my mailbox?

Starting Outlook with all folders collapsed/expanded

Starting Outlook with all folders collapsed/expanded

People with multiple mailboxes or a lot of folders can have quite a busy Navigation Pane and therefore also tends to look after it a bit more.

Some of these people would like to keep everything collapsed for a cleaner and less jumpy Outlook interface. Others like to keep everything expanded so that they can easily reach each folder.

Sometimes it looks like Outlook has a mind of its own and keeps expanding and collapsing your folders whenever it pleases.

How exactly does it behave and how to keep all folders collapsed/expanded during and between Outlook sessions?

Permanently delete from pst-file and Compact Now

Permanently delete from pst-file and Compact Now

I know that when I permanently delete something from Outlook (so also from the Deleted Items folder), it will still not be deleted directly and my pst-file won't become smaller unless I run Compact Now. Until then or until it gets overwritten, the data is still stored within the pst-file and thus recoverable as you described here.

I'd prefer the deleted items to be really gone and free up space directly. For this I now manually run Compact Now a couple of times per week.

Can I configure Outlook that it will always automatically compact the pst-file whenever I delete something?

Options tab for old add-ins in Outlook 2010

Options tab for old add-ins in Outlook 2010

I've been using an add-in in Outlook 2007 (and previous Outlook version) which added its own tab in the Options dialog of Outlook to configure it.

I've now upgraded to Outlook 2010 and the add-in still seems to work just fine but I can't find its configuration tab anywhere. It hasn't been added as an extra section in the new File-> Options dialog nor can I find anything on the Add-Ins tab of the Ribbon.

How can I configure it in Outlook 2010 or should I look for a new add-in?

Internet images are not being downloaded in emails

Internet images are not being downloaded in emails

I've received a message with images in it which are located on the Internet. Outlook blocks these images from being downloaded, but even when I tell Outlook to download the images they will not show.

I've completely disabled the picture blocking feature in Trust Center-> Automatic Download now and they still don't download and only show the infamous broken image icon with a red X. This applies to all the emails that I get with Internet  images from different senders so I know it is not an issue with how the message was composed or that the images are no longer available on the web server.

How can I get Outlook to download these images?

Brighten up your Automatic Replies (OOF) for the holidays with icons, colors and emoji

Brighten up your Automatic Replies (OOF) for the holidays with icons, colors and emoji

The weather doesn’t really seem to play along this Summer; it’s either lots of rain or draught, no sun at all or a bit too much sun and of course, for some of you it’s Winter now! But even though the weather might be a bit gloomy, it doesn't mean that your Automatic Replies (OOF) have to be the same.

While you can maintain a serious business style OOF message for the outside world, how about a more cheerful notification message for your colleagues hard at (doing your) work?
