QAT and Ribbon settings not saved upon logoff

We're in a network where not everybody has their own working space with a computer but simply uses a spot that is available. Upon logging in, all my settings are there and Outlook works as is should. However, I noticed that my customizations to my Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) aren't there.

I can reconfigure it and when I return to a computer which I've already used, they are there as well so I guess they are only stored on the local machine.

I can backup and restore my QAT settings manually each time but isn't there an easier way similar like the rest of my Outlook configuration "travels" with me?

Displaying a Contact’s age and countdown to the next Birthday

I got inspired by your last tip about displaying the days left before a task needs completion and tried to tweak it to create a countdown to a contact’s next birthday and also to create a column which displays the current age of that contact.

However, I can’t seem to come up with the correct formula.

Is it possible to create these columns for my contact list and if so, could you post the correct formula to use?

Recommended pst-/ost-file size vs. Maximum technical size

I heard that pst-files can grow as large as 50GB in size but also heard that issues will occur when it grows beyond 2GB.

My guess is that the difference is a technical limit versus a recommended limit.

Currently, my pst-file is reaching the 2GB and I wonder what I should do. Obviously, I do not want to run into issues but I prefer to keep my mailbox in a single pst-file rather than to create many little ones.

Which maximum pst-file size would you recommend?

Cache only Calendar and Contacts of a Shared Mailbox but not Emails

I've noticed that my ost-file for my Exchange account is much (much!) larger than my own mailbox.

Aside from my own mailbox, I also have the mailbox of my manager and a colleague added to Outlook as I am a delegate for them. It appears that Outlook fully caches these mailboxes which both include a lot of large emails.

Is there any way I can configure Outlook to only cache the Calendar and Contacts folder?

Stop ignoring/moving conversations

I've been using the the "Ignore" button on some conversations hoping to get rid of some "noise" in my Inbox and created a "Move Conversation" rule on some other messages. However, some conversations went back to an interesting topic again and I want to start receiving them in my Inbox again.

I've looked at my list of rules, but I cannot find any rule in my list of rules which is responsible for moving/deleting this conversation.

How can I stop ignoring/moving a single conversations or stop ignoring any conversation?

Birthday reminders wake me up at night

It's great that Outlook automatically generates Birthday reminders for the contacts I create with Birthday information but, sadly, it puts a default reminder of 15 minutes before the Birthday. As I sync Outlook with my smartphone, it wakes me up at night.

Can I make Outlook remind me of the Birthday at a more appropriate time?

MAPI32.DLL error after clean install

I installed Office 2003. Restarted my computer and clicked on the outlook icon, and an error message said;

"Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. MAPI32.DLL is corrupt or the wrong version.
This could have been caused by installing messaging software. Please reinstall Outlook."

I reinstalled it a few times and it said the same thing. What's wrong here?

Set pst-file as default delivery for Exchange account

I have an Exchange account but I prefer to download everything to a pst-file.

How can I configure Outlook so that not only all new mails arrive in my pst-file, but also all Sent Items, Calendar appointments, Contacts, Drafts, etc... will be stored in it and not in my Exchange mailbox?

Folder sorting order in Shared Mailbox changes back randomly

We’ve got several subfolders for the Inbox in a Shared Mailbox which we want to sort in such a way that the most frequently folders are at the top. The rest can remain ordered alphabetically.

We have no issues changing the sorting order at first. However, the sorting order seems to randomly get reset again and the folders end up in their original location.

We’ve tried renaming the folders with special prefixes as well, but that ended up in an even bigger mess.

Is there really no way to manually sort the folders of a Shared Mailbox and make them stay in their location?
