Finding messages which are set to expire

I regularly set an “Expire after” date on a message so they can automatically be cleaned up when they become irrelevant. My colleagues also do that on time-sensitive messages that they send to me.

When they expire, they will show with a strikethrough font, but is it also possible to highlight or find all messages which have an expiration date set?

Adding commands to the Home or Message tab of the Ribbon

I know that you can add commands to the Quick Access Toolbar but I actually like to have some additional commands shown on the Home or Message tab of Outlook instead.

For instance, I would like to add the Spelling & Grammar button to the main Messages tab (visible when composing a message) and the Print button to the Home tab of the Outlook window itself.

How can I do this?

Should I install the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Office/Outlook?

I’ve just installed Windows 10 on my computer and I’m now about to install Office. It offers to install the 32-bit version but I know there is also a 64-bit version available.

I seem to recall that Microsoft used to recommend to install the 32-bit version, even on a 64-bit version of Windows but that was some years ago.

  • Does Microsoft still recommend installing the 32-bit version?
  • What are the downsides or benefits when I install the 64-bit version?
  • Where can I download the 64-bit version of Office?

Find e-mail between specific dates

I like the Instant Search feature of Outlook, but is there also a way to find an e-mail between specific dates?

Right now, I get too many results back and the Received option only gives me the pre-set option of today, yesterday, this week, last week, this month, last month, this year and last year.

None of them apply to my situation;
I know the name of the sender, I know some specific words and I know that it was between 3 and 4 months ago. Without setting the timeframe, I'm getting way too many results for it to be useful.

Is there any way I can do this query with Instant Search or do I have to use Advanced Find?

Determine the folder path of a message found in Search results

I frequently do a mailbox wide search in Outlook and luckily I also usually find what I’m looking for.

Sometimes, it is also important to me to find out where exactly that email is located in Outlook. The search results list doesn’t tell me that but it is important to me that I know it is in the correct folder.

Is there any way to determine the exact folder path of a message?

Color formatting not working for all appointments

To my Calendar, I have added some Conditional Formatting rules to more easily see if I need to travel to a meeting or not (based on the Location field).

I noticed that this Conditional Formatting does work for some of my appointments/meetings but not all.

Why is this and how can I make this work?

Attachments show up in the message body

Usually, when I add an attachment, it shows up in the “Attached” line directly under the “Subject” line.

However, sometimes it is being added between the text of the e-mail message instead.

Is there any way to toggle the location when the attachments show up?

Switching between Microsoft 365 Apps for Business/Enterprise, Current, Preview and Beta Channel (Office Insider) without re-installing

Unlike Microsoft 365 for Home, I can’t seem to switch between the Office Insider release builds via File-> Office Account-> Office Insider when using Microsoft 365 Apps for Business. Instead, I need to use custom installers to achieve this.

As I test the various Office release channels, I prefer not to reinstall but to simply update; Go from the oldest release channel and switch to a newer each time.

Is there any way to still be able to switch between Microsoft 365 Apps for Business channel releases by using Group Policy or editing the Registry?

Remove Outlook search results from Start Menu

When typing in the Search field in the Start Menu, I also get results from Outlook. When presenting, I often start my applications via a Search in the Start Menu as well. Obviously, I do not want to reveal my contacts (customers) and some other data that I've stored in Outlook to others when doing this.

How can I prevent the Search results to also reveal Outlook data in the Start Menu?

Searching inside msg-files

Several emails are saved as separate msg-files on my disk. When I do a search in Explorer, I noticed that it only searches in the file name and not inside the message itself. Strangely enough, the search results do show Word documents and other files that contain the words I searched for.

How can I make Windows also search inside msg-files which I've got stored?
