Sync error 4350 and 4202 with Outlook Hotmail Connector
When synching my Outlook.com account via the Outlook Hotmail Connector I get the following error:
Task 'Hotmail' reported error (0x80004005) : 'There is an error synchronizing your mail account. Please verify your account is configured correctly by first accessing your mail on the web. Error: 4350. '
I have logged in via the web and nothing is reported there. Also, my mail, contact and calendar seem to sync just fine accept from receiving this error.
How can I get rid of this synching error?
The synching error 4350, which sometimes also is reported as 4202, indicates an issue with synching the Junk E-mail settings.
Cause
The Outlook Hotmail Connector also syncs the Blocked and Safe Senders list. If there is a malformed address listed (not a full email address or only a name), or when the same address exists in both the Blocked and Safe list, then this error is reported.
Solution
Remove the malformed or contradicting address from your Safe or Blocked list. If it is not directly clear which address is causing the issue, export your Blocked and Safe lists and then remove all addresses from the list; you should no longer receive the sync error when the send/receive process occurs.
You can access your Junk E-mail settings in the following way;
- Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007
Tools-> Options…-> button: Junk E-mail Options… - Outlook 2010
Select the Inbox or Junk E-mail folder of your Hotmail account and choose;
tab Home-> button Junk-> Junk E-mail Options…
Still issues?
If you are still having issues then or if the names that you just deleted keep returning, you can post a question in the Microsoft Answers – Outlook.com forum. A support administrator will then help you and fix the issue for you directly on the server. For similar requests, you can search the forum with the term 0x80004005.
Note
In general, your Blocked Senders and Safe Senders list should be quite empty. There is no need to add the address of every junk e-mail that you receive to the Blocked list (junk addresses are usually used only once) and consider adding Safe Senders as contacts to you Contacts folder. This will also speed up the processing on incoming e-mails. For additional details see; Blocked Senders size limit.
Error 4350 and 4202 commonly indicate errors with synching the Junk E-mail filter list.
