Outlook Hotmail Connector and HTTPS support
With the new version of the Outlook Hotmail Connector we see a common returning question;
Does this version of the Outlook Hotmail Connector support HTTPS and if not, when will this be added?
Update: HTTPS support has now been added to Outlook Hotmail Connector starting with built number 14.0.6106.5001. For details see; New Outlook Hotmail Connector with HTTPS support!
The current version of the Outlook Hotmail Connector (version 14.2 with built number 14.0.5139.5001) doesn’t support the HTTPS protocol. The Outlook Team is aware of this issue and support for it is scheduled for a later release of the Outlook Hotmail Connector. No public ETA has been announced for that yet though.
Enabling/disabling automatic HTTPS support for Hotmail
If you currently have HTTPS support for Hotmail enabled, you’ll get the following send/receive error;
Error: 3202. Server. HTTPS is turned on for the web but not for this program.
To turn it off, you can visit; https://account.live.com/managessl
Note: Even with automatic HTTPS disabled, you can still access your Live Hotmail account securely is a browser by typing https instead of http in the url;
https://www.hotmail.com
https://mail.live.com
The current release of the Outlook Hotmail Connector doesn't support HTTPS and will cause a 3202 error if automatic HTTPS is enabled for your Windows Live ID.
